I have had the opportunity to learn and execute the web design process while at WVU. Content research, accessibility, IA diagrams, style tiles, wireframes, mockups, and user-testing are all important pieces in the web design process. I used HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, SASS, and Wordpress to develop these sites. I have seen large growth in my knowledge and design thinking due to coding. I am happy to understand how UI and UX affect our everyday lives.
My Portfolio
It was a fun experience building my own website from scratch. Not only being able to show my work, but showing it through a coded website was a big self accomplishment.
This is now my third portfolio site as I have improved the content, responsiveness, and accessibility each time. Building this site also allowed me to reflect on my work and notice where I need to improve.
WNYeats
WNYeats is a recipe website that celebrates the great foods from the Western New York region. WNYeats allows users to access all their favorite recipes in one place, while also being able to learn the history and place of origin of the specific recipe.
I made this website client friendly by building with php and Wordpress, allowing the client to upload new recipes from scratch while maintaining the current structure and styles.
FastBook
FastBook is a proposed site with the purpose of making buying, selling, and borrowing textbooks for school quick and mindless. Rather than searching multiple sites worrying about shipping, delivery time, safety, etc, FastBook allows for last-minute textbook acquisitions. Students are able to create an account through university verification, in order to maintain safe and positive book exchanges. FastBook is the ultimate academic textbook hub!
West Virginia Youth Symphony
West Virginia Youth Symphony provides children and young adults with the opportunity to learn, practice, and perform the symphony across the state of West Virginia. My goal was to improve the current website's organization, functionality, and overall user experience.
Visit Danville
Visit Danville is a made-up tourism site based on Danville from Phineas and Ferb. I drew specific places and events from the show, while laying it out in a way that allows the user to book a trip. Making a site fun can be attempted in many ways from color, interactivity, and content. I was able to make my site "fun" by creating a "Build Your Own Trip" feature, made up of different selectors. This made the site successfully interactive, while tying to the theme of Phineas and Ferb.
