During my Sophomore year at WVU, I was able to design a logo for nearby New Martinsville, West Virginia. Everyone in the class had the opportunity to participate in a real life design scenario with the Town Board, directed by Professor Faulkes. We met with the board members via online video chat multiple times throughout the semester taking notes on their goals and ideology of their new brand mark. In the end, my logo was selected as the winner amongst all options.
Key notes about New Martinsville:
Boating and fishing are most popular
Friendly, Warm, Natural
Close community connections
Town has museums, small shops, and restaurants
Nobody sees the current signage
I sketched a good amount of ideas down based on the presentation of New Martinsville from the board and the key aspects of their community. One of the last ones I did was my favorite and most unique option. I knew I could do something with an N and an M that represents a close, connected community. My logo continued to evolve throughout the design process. In the end, I was happy with how it turned out.
